  Meet Ruxandra

Among my earliest memories are those of my mom's studio in Romania where, throughout my childhood and teenage years, my time was spent drawing and painting.  I guess it did not come as a surprise to anyone that my first choice for college was Architecture School.

Once we moved to Switzerland I joined the United Nations, whose organizations I have worked for first in Geneva and, after my marriage, in New York.  I thoroughly enjoyed being an Events Planner for the International Labour Office (ILO), and this was an important factor in getting me involved in Feng Shui and Sogetsu Ikebana (which I studied in Tokyo, Japan).

In New York I also studied Faux Finishing with Pierre Finkelstein at his Institute and soon noticed that I was spending more and more time redecorating friends' and neighbors' homes.  The most fascinating aspect was realizing that a few hours spent correcting the energy flow in a house by de-cluttering and repositioning furniture and accessories had a long-term positive impact on the family's dynamics.

This was instant gratification at its best and the idea of Better-Your-Best Interiors was born, a firm that not only provides traditional interior decorating services, but is also geared toward helping people who had done their best in acquiring furnishings and did not have the knowledge and experience of using what they owned to its full potential.  I soon found out that Interior Redecorating was a fast growing industry in the US and became certified by Lauri Ward in her Use What You HaveĀ® Decorating System, as an Interior Refiner.

I started Better-Your-Best Interiors with the firmest belief that I can make the world more beautiful, one room at a time.  My strengths are bringing order, balance, clarity and harmony to clients' homes and, implicitly, their lives.

Local and national media responded to the buzz generated by my activity.  I was profiled in a 2 page editorial in the November 2003 issue of the Northern Westchester countylife.  On February 12, 2004 I was Aaron Kershaw's guest on his talk show, airing on WRTN 93.5FM.  I frequently appeared in the Yorktown Chamber's News and Views magazine (trade show, decorating tips, sponsor of events, toy drive organizer).   I was featured in the September 2005 issue of Domino magazine in their "Nesting" section with before/after pictures of a room redecorated by me.  In October 2006, WCBS News had me explaining to their audience Resale Decorating.  The story was picked up by Martha Stewart Living Media, on Sirius, who followed me through a house I redecorated and which sold in a record 5 hours after being put on the market!

I am currently working toward completing the Sheffield's School Feng Shui Interior Design program, and have become an IDS Associate!

Professional affiliations:  Interior Design Society (IDS)

I feel blessed to be among the people who can be in love with their family and profession at the same time.
